Five a day?
My children’s eyes lit up when they saw the headlines in the papers yesterday indicating that fruit and vegetables are bad for the teeth. Although I spend most of my days here at Cashel Daisley dealing with dental implants and cosmetic dentistry, basic oral health is still very important to me. The last thing I want is to transform a smile only to find that the patient needs more work further down the line because of bad eating habits or poor oral hygiene.
My advice to patients (and my children) is not to snack between meals. The natural acids and sugars in fruit will damage your teeth if you graze on them during the day but not if you have them at main mealtimes. The same goes for fruit juices – water only between meals, but fruit juice is allowed at mealtimes (Coke on a Friday night, but that is a different story).
